Richard received his undergraduate education at Florida State University. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University in 1976. Richard completed his education with post-doctoral studies in applied system dynamics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982.
Richard Fritz joined the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta in August of 1988, in the position of senior economist in the Research Department. During the 1990s he was promoted to the rank of bank officer and named the Bank’s Chief Economist. He managed the Housing Market Analysis department and was a member of the Planning and Research department. In 2002 Richard was named Director of Corporate Communication. Richard retired from the Bank in 2007.
Richard's own research has addressed public policy issues involving the financial services industries, housing markets, and regional economic fluctuations. He has written on financial institutions, real estate markets, residential construction activity, and the impact of tourism development. His research has been published in books, professional journals, and the publications of the Federal Home Loan Bank System. In addition to his position at the Bank, he has held the position of adjunct professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1988 through 2007. Before joining the Bank, Richard was a faculty member at Boston University, the University of Vermont, and the University of Central Florida. Most recently, Richard held the position of Visiting Professor of Practice at Wake Forest University.
Richard Fritz was born and grew up in Miami, Florida. He met his wife, Judy, while both were undergraduates studying in Florence, Italy. They have two daughters, Erin and Lauren. Both daughters are physicians. The Fritzs have two granddaughters, Evelyn and Collier, who live with their mother and father in Southern California.
When time permits, Richard enjoys playing with his twin grandchildren, reading, golf, and hiking.
